I have another question that’s
not listed here...
1.
How come there are categories to sell items or services?
Isn’t everything free?
While www.SeekorServe.com emphasizes FREE giveaways, it is also a platform for basic classifieds where people can post ads to sell items &/or services. And although there is nothing wrong with “selling” items or services, we are currently trying to change the trend from “typical ads that sell for profit” to “free giveaway ads where people give because they are compelled by the unsurpassed love of Jesus Christ.” That said, www.SeekorServe.com is split up into three basic categories: "GIVEAWAYS" & "NEEDS" categories, and "Regular Classifieds." The prayer is that Christians will rise to the occasion & take advantage of this amazing opportunity to use the "GIVEAWAYS" & "NEEDS" sections in an unprecedented, unparalleled effort to prove to everyone that they are known for
LOVE
above all; & show the world that Christ’s followers are
truly GIVING people.
2. This sounds too good to be true. What’s the catch? There’s got to be a catch!
How can you really get around the need for funding,
staffing, planning, etc.? *NOTE: This Q&A is regarding the "GIVEAWAYS" & "NEEDS" Categories
There is no catch and there are no strings attached. Everything given is absolutely free. No “credits” or “trades” or “things to do” (like signing up for something or subscribing to this thing or that thing). It really IS that good because www.SeekorServe.com depends on the greatness, goodness, and unsurpassed power of the love of Jesus Christ, as He compels people to act in sincere kindness and goodness toward one another. And how do you get around funding, staffing, planning, etc.? Let’s look at a couple examples... Say Jane (from your church) needs a computer, so she goes to www.SeekorServe.com to post that need. Then Bill (also from your church) sees her post when he browses the site. It happens he actually can give her a computer. So Bill contacts Jane through the site & makes arrangements so he can give her the computer. TA-DA! Need met! Or let’s say Kelly (from your church) posts that she is giving away free painting and gardening services. Then John (also from your church) browses www.SeekorServe.com and sees that Kelly is able to help him fix up some paint-jobs and gardening at his house. So he gets in touch with Kelly through the site and the two of them make arrangements to get the painting and gardening done. Again...need met! Or what if your church (or other organization) needs to raise funds for a building project, so one of your representatives posts on www.SeekorServe.com that you are in need of financial support. Then people browse the site, see this post, & contact you to contribute funds for your church (or other organization) project. And just like that...AGAIN, TA-DA! Need met! Just stop and think about this for a moment. Did you have to use funds to create or use this site? No. Did you have to get church staff to organize or plan or coordinate meetings between people? No. Did you have to recruit workers to dispatch items or provide services? No. Did you have to provide storage/meeting/building space? No. Did you have to host events? No. Did you have to make time commitments or schedule meetings? No. Did you have to do ANYTHING other than encourage people to take advantage of www.SeekorServe.com so they can connect with each other and meet needs? No! Do you see how absolutely totally simple and powerful this is?? It’s THE PEOPLE themselves - NOT just church staff or church workers or volunteers - it’s THE PEOPLE (even the “selfish” and “lazy” ones!) who do the funding, staffing, planning, organizing, scheduling, recruiting, hosting, etc. People are already there with their own time, talents, and other UNTAPPED RESOURCES....and they’re right there sitting in your church & in your meetings, getting together for worship & Bible studies, having fellowship, going on retreats, and so forth. They only need the opportunity to be FULLY EMPOWERED to share the love of Jesus Christ. They only need the chance to CONNECT DIRECTLY with one another, ON THEIR OWN. And your church, by using www.SeekorServe.com as a FREE resource, will be a “point of connection” where all people experience Christian love in a truly sincere, real, and tangible way.
Best of all, the kingdom of
JESUS CHRIST
- not just “a church” - will grow.
J
*IMPORTANT NOTE: When using www.SeekorServe.com, people are always urged to include their church affiliation so anybody using the site can be aware of which church they represent...this is an easy but powerful & FREE way to advertise your church! The more people use the site and post needs & giveaways that are affiliated with
your church, the more
your church will get noticed by people EVERYWHERE...
J
3.
Isn’t this just like FreeCycle, Listia, PointsOfLight,
Goodwill, or CraigsList? *NOTE: This Q&A is regarding the "GIVEAWAYS" & "NEEDS" Categories
No, for many reasons. First of all, unlike other “free giveaway” or volunteer sites, www.SeekorServe.com is emphatically centered around Jesus Christ, and the goodness, greatness, and boundless love that can come only from Him. Other sites like freecycle.org, listia.com, pointsoflight.org, or Goodwill are centered on people’s inner “goodness” (help people) &/or love for the environment (recycle stuff) plus a need to just “get rid of stuff you don’t want anymore” or simply “trade” items. Secondly, with sites like listia.com, you need to “earn” credits to get anything “for free”...so there’s a catch and nothing is really TRULY “free.” Thirdly, with sites like freecycle.org, there is a more complex process involving moderators, signing up to be part of certain groups, etc. and so the procedure is actually very involved and not user friendly at all. George Bush Sr.’s pointsoflight.org also has even more red-tape you must go through, since a great portion of connections made there are through government organizations such as police or fire departments, schools, hospitals, etc. But www.SeekorServe.com on the other hand is VERY simple, VERY easy, and VERY user friendly...it’s as easy as using Craigslist.org with no “red tape” & no extra “process” or “middle-man” or “organization” to go through - you get in touch DIRECTLY with the people you help &/or the people who help you! Also, unlike other sites, www.SeekorServe.com focuses on BOTH items and services. Sites like freecycle.org or listia.com and even Goodwill are focused mainly on items, while places like pointsoflight.org are based mainly on giving services instead of items. And if you’re thinking about the “free” section on Craigslist, just realize that it’s limited to merely items (no services). Plus, much of what is listed as “free” is nothing more than animals or pets people want to get rid of, and/or other “get-rid-of” items (and even dirt!). It is important to address people’s needs in EVERY aspect, whether it be tangible or intangible, whether it be a product, item, or an actual service requiring time to perform. In this sense, www.SeekorServe.com is much more broad and universal in its ability to address virtually EVERY need that you can think of (yard-work, computers, cell phones, tutoring, transportation, job search, counseling, prayer, rent, food, clothes, medical aid, funding/financial aid, construction, laptops, moving, painting, furniture, cars/houses, etc.) www.SeekorServe.com is all-encompassing (both items AND services with regard to both needs AND giveaways), user-friendly, really TRULY 100% FREE, & best of all....
the main focal point is Jesus Christ.
4.
Can this all REALLY happen 24 hours a day, 7 days a week,
every day of the year?
*NOTE: This Q&A is regarding the "GIVEAWAYS" &
"NEEDS" Categories
Yes! People post and browse on www.SeekorServe.com, contacting one another to meet needs at ANY time of ANY day of ANY week, including holidays! Because this utilizes the technological power of the internet, traditional time limits like scheduling, hours of operation, time constraints, deadlines, etc. are now a thing of the past. Anybody anywhere (as long as they have internet access) can post or browse for needs & giveaways at 2 pm or 2 am...even on holidays, & yes, even on Christmas. And people can contact others - & also meet needs - at any time of the day or night they choose. If someone wants to make themselves available for people to call at 3 am on Christmas
if they’re in need of
someone to talk & pray with, who are we to stop them?
J
Say GOODBYE to scheduling, operational hours, time constraints, “closed on holidays,” deadlines, and other time limitations! With www.SeekorServe.com, you REALLY
TRULY can and will
meet
needs 24 hrs. a day, EVERY DAY of EVERY YEAR!
5.
How can this grow my church?
And EXPONENTIALLY?? *NOTE: This Q&A is regarding the "GIVEAWAYS" & "NEEDS" Categories
(*Sidenote: Make sure you also read the answer to FAQ #7!)
The real question you should be asking is, “How can it NOT?” When you create an atmosphere of true love, the love of Jesus Christ, where people actually help one another FREELY through genuine acts of kindness 24/7, people will want to come check you out. Inviting someone to church couldn’t be easier! Even the most “selfish” person will want to connect with you just to see what they can get for FREE. They’ll probably think to themselves, “Wait, there’s no catch? I don’t have to even listen to a sermon or read my Bible? You’ll ACTUALLY help me FOR FREE? Hmmm... maybe these Christians really DO practice what they preach...” At that point, continue to give to them freely, praying that The Holy Spirit would work on the person’s heart through the free giveaways they receive. If they won’t come to your church, GO OUT TO THEM to meet their needs...people usually will not let you in to their home just to talk about Jesus and how they need salvation, but they will let you in if you are responding to a request for assistance. In so doing, you can’t help but develop genuine connections with people as you offer free aid. You will be able to use these connections to allow people to easily and quickly BUILD RELATIONSHIPS. Such organic connections will NATURALLY lead to building and expanding your church (you won’t even have to try!). When “Christian love” is experienced in a tangible, concrete, simple, ongoing fashion, the possibilities for church growth are ENDLESS! J And as for EXPONENTIAL growth, www.SeekorServe.com frees up EVERYONE (not just the pastor & church staff, but EVERYONE) to minister and serve (in addition to receiving). This exponentially increases the ability of a church to reach out & grow, since everyone in your church - EVERYONE - becomes BOTH a minister (give for free) and a
parishioner (receive
for free) at the
same time...24/7,
365/yr, REAL-TIME, non-stop!
J
6.
I am not convinced this can help grow my church...what if it
doesn’t grow? *NOTE: This Q&A is regarding the "GIVEAWAYS" & "NEEDS" Categories
Ok, let’s assume for the sake of argument that you get this started in your church, where people are posting their needs and giveaways, and they’re actually connecting with each other to meet needs. In all this, you notice that your church membership hasn’t grown. What this means is that the ONLY thing you accomplish is an increase in ministry to people within your church, WITHOUT added funding, staffing, planning, or recruiting. You ONLY get people in your church to reach out to each other. You ONLY further develop an atmosphere where people help one another freely and build relationships. You ONLY free up the people within your church to all pitch in and help share the load of ministry, so the church leadership is greatly relieved and yet able to accomplish more.
You ONLY
increase overall ministry effectiveness and help build
stronger relationships.
THAT is what can happen in a “worst case scenario” where your church “doesn’t grow.” And you accomplish all of that with no extra funding, staffing, planning, or recruiting.
Bottom line: You LOSE NOTHING and GAIN A LOT.
7. Wouldn't it be better to just create a site specifically for our Church or ministry?
*NOTE: This Q&A is regarding the "GIVEAWAYS" &
"NEEDS" Categories
NO. For two big reasons...
First (and this is perhaps the most obvious reason), making your own site specifically for your Church & ministries will COST YOU: time, money, staffing, or any combination of them (or even other unforeseen costs). Creating your own site requires you to INVEST. But by using SeekOrServe.com you eliminate the need for any sort of cost in terms of manpower, funding, scheduling issues, time constraints, and on and on and on and on... This site is 100% FREE & all set up for IMMEDIATE implementation.
The second big reason why it's NOT better to create a site just for your Church or ministry is a bit more subtle but easily the real game-changer. Just think about this for a minute. If the site people use is specific to your organization, then there would be no urgent reason for them to enter a Church or ministry affiliation because the site is already connected to a "base" location. But by having a neutral and international site that has no ties to any group, it becomes more important for listings to include a Church or ministry affiliation so that people can have a better idea of where needs are to be met. In order for you to maximize your exposure and further promote your Church and ministries worldwide, this little but important detail is VITAL. Here's how and why....
What we're doing is more than simply obeying the command to love one another. We are striving to actually advertise, market, and fully promote your Church & ministries on a global scale as much as we possibly can. To that end, creating a scenario where people CONSTANTLY enter your Church and ministry contact details on listings on the worldwide web, which are over time "indexed" & utilized by search engines like Google, is a necessity...(keep reading)....
Over time, as you encourage more people to love one another and get their own needs met through www.SeekOrServe.com, the simple act of entering your Church and ministry contact details repeatedly on the internet will have a tremendous positive impact on increasing global awareness of your Church & ministries....
Search engine giants like Google, Yahoo, & MSN/BIng are always on the lookout for names and addresses that pop up repeatedly on the internet, and they track what people are doing online 24/7 (whether it be by computer/laptop or mobile device). As these search engines "see" your Church and ministry names appear more frequently, and by an ever-growing number of different people, they will begin to give higher priority to listing your Church and ministries on internet and even mobile searches that occur every second of every day of every year...
Using www.SeekOrServe.com to its fullest potential will help create a "buzz" where people are always "talking" about your Church & ministries. And this is all done in a way where people do NOT feel like they're advertising your Church. All they're doing is obeying Jesus Christ's command to love one another. It just so happens that they're going about it in a way where they become a massive FREE marketing & promotional force that works around the clock for your Church & ministries...
Entering information on the internet that lists a specific organization again and again 24/7, to be eventually indexed and listed by search engines globally, is widely considered "marketing gold" for any individual or group that is serious about promotion and growth. SeekOrServe.com achieves this for you in a way that costs you NO MONEY AT ALL and takes only one (1) minute each month from people whom you get involved.
Bottom line: You pay NOTHING. You invest NOTHING. But you get a 24/7 ever-growing advertising, marketing, and promotional force that works to grow your Church & ministries around the clock, on a GLOBAL scale!
8.
How can this help me do outreach & spread the gospel of Jesus Christ? *NOTE: This Q&A is regarding the "GIVEAWAYS" & "NEEDS" Categories
By simply (and freely) meeting clearly stated needs (items &/or services) as posted on www.SeekorServe.com. Just browse needs & post giveaways on the site, & serve!
Also, most people won’t let you into their house to talk to them about Jesus. However, if you show up at their house in response to their request for assistance in a house project, they’re sure to let you in. By building genuine relationships with people through meeting
needs, Christ’s love is experienced & people are more
receptive to hearing the Gospel.
9.
How come I only see posts from my Church/ministry/area? *NOTE: This Q&A is regarding the "GIVEAWAYS" & "NEEDS" Categories
within their local Church/ministry/area. If you are not seeing posts in your area, or if you are only seeing the needs &/or giveaways from your local Church, ministry, or location, then that may mean there are not yet enough active SeekOrServe.com users in your area. This means you need to generate more posts on a consistent basis (which advertises your Church & ministries more!) that are affiliated with your own geographic region before being allowed to view other posts outside of your immediate congregation. This setup ensures you get maximum advertising, marketing, & promotion for your Church & ministries, while also upholding the biblical mandate of loving one another FIRST within the body of Christ, BEFORE going out to "love them out there" (John 13:34-35 & Galatians 6:10). Additionally, we want to protect you and your congregation from burning yourselves out, so we must do everything we can to meet your needs first, fully preparing you to love everyone else outside your Church walls.
10.
How can this get church (or other group, business, or
organization) needs met?
*NOTE: This Q&A is regarding
the "GIVEAWAYS" & "NEEDS" Categories
An authorized representative of your church (or other group or organization) would simply post on www.SeekorServe.com that your church (or other group or organization) is in need, whether it be help with Sunday School teaching, contributions to food drives, church staffing, ministry help, furniture, computers, clothing, funding for a building project, tools, volunteers, office supplies, etc. Additionally, make sure you constantly browse the posted giveaways on www.SeekorServe.com to see if anybody is offering items or
services that fit the
need(s) of your church (or other group or organization).
11.
Can a group (i.e. youth group, church, or other
organization) post giveaways?
*NOTE: This Q&A is regarding
the "GIVEAWAYS" & "NEEDS" Categories
Absolutely! This is NOT only for individuals. An authorized representative of your group (youth group, church, business, or other organization or corporation) would simply post on www.SeekorServe.com the items and/or services your group is able/willing to give. Additionally, you would constantly browse the posted needs on www.SeekorServe.com to see if anybody is in need of items or services that your group or organization
might be able to provide.
12.
How can this be used to minister to people in the Church
congregation & beyond?
*NOTE: This Q&A is regarding the
"GIVEAWAYS" & "NEEDS" Categories
People in the congregation (& beyond) simply post their needs and giveaways on www.SeekorServe.com to let others within the church (and thus the church itself) - plus everybody else browsing the site - know what they need & what they can give. This very simple process allows anybody and everybody browsing the website (not just a church “ministry” or “board” - in fact, ANYONE who uses the site) to be able to see stated needs and meet them...AND also see posted giveaways that meet their own needs. Also, people can just browse the site to check posted giveaways and see if any items or services are listed that fit their need(s), plus check posted needs for people to help.
Posting and browsing,
posting and browsing, you get the idea...it
really IS that simple!
What www.SeekorServe.com does is simply free up EVERYONE to minister and EVERYONE to serve (in addition to receiving), so the job and responsibility of “ministering” is more effectively distributed through the whole church (not just the pastor and church staff). This exponentially increases the ability of a church to minister to its congregation and surrounding communities, since everyone - EVERYONE - becomes both a minister (give for free) & a parishioner (receive for free) at the same time... and
better yet, this all happens
24
hours a day, 365 days a year, in REAL-TIME, non-stop!
13.
What if someone abuses the site (i.e. spam, inappropriate
posts, etc.)?
Report the inappropriate action(s) &/or abusive behavior(s) by clicking on the "Report Ad" link found in the ad details (a red flag icon in the "Tools" section underneath "Ad Description").
14.
What if I don’t “need” something but just “want” something? *NOTE: This Q&A is regarding the "GIVEAWAYS" & "NEEDS" Categories
That’s actually ok. You’d just have to be honest about it and explain in your post or correspondence that it’s more of a desire than a need, and it will be up to the person(s)
offering the
giveaway(s) to decide whether or not to give you what you
are seeking.
15.
How does someone determine who gets what? *NOTE: This Q&A is regarding the "GIVEAWAYS" & "NEEDS" Categories
Since everything is free, whatever is given (whether it be items or services) is done so at the discretion of the giver. Each person (or organization) gives as he/she/they desires to
just as
long as they do so without any compensation - everything is
FREE.
16.
What happens if a posted item or service is no longer
available?
Then it is simply not available for anyone to receive. It is the responsibility of each person (or organization, through a representative) to monitor their posts. Once a posted item/service is no longer available, the poster has the responsibility to update their post
by either deleting
it or altering the post’s message/details to indicate its
changed status.
17.
How do I protect my personal information (home address,
phone number, etc.)?
You can contact other people directly through www.SeekorServe.com contact forms without ever having to give out ANY personal information; and to protect your private
email address, just use a
separate free email account (i.e. gmail, yahoo, hotmail,
etc.).
18.
Can I just browse the site to check out needs and giveaways?
*NOTE: This Q&A is regarding
the "GIVEAWAYS" & "NEEDS" Categories
Absolutely! That’s what www.SeekorServe.com is there for....so people can browse it day in and day out and always be aware of what others are giving away &/or in need of,
and then respond to one another accordingly.
J
19.
How do I get in touch with someone to get or give something?
*NOTE: This Q&A is regarding the
"GIVEAWAYS" & "NEEDS" Categories
You connect directly with them through www.SeekorServe.com contact forms and/or their contact information found within their post(s) on the website. Also, you can simply
post your item(s) &/or
service(s) on
www.SeekorServe.com
so people can contact you.
20.
Is there a limit to how many needs or giveaways I can post? *NOTE: This Q&A is regarding the "GIVEAWAYS" & "NEEDS" Categories
No. Post as
many giveaways and as many needs as you wish!
J
21.
Is there a limit to how long a post stays up?
No. Although SeekOrServe reserves the right to delete posts which it deems no longer active, or perhaps otherwise inappropriate.
22. Do I need to be part of some local group? Are there any memberships,
subscriptions, or
pre-requisites before I can use
www.SeekorServe.com?
No. Just get a FREE account on www.SeekorServe.com (pretty much the same way
as you would on Craigslist).
It’ll only take about a minute (maybe two)!
J
23.
Are there any fees, credits, or things I have to do in order
to receive anything? *NOTE: This Q&A is regarding the "GIVEAWAYS" & "NEEDS" Categories
No. “Free”
really means FREE!
J
Just take a minute or two to get a FREE account on
www.SeekorServe.com
the same way as on Craigslist, and you’re good to go!
24.
How do I keep myself safe when meeting with a stranger?
We always recommend that when you meet with someone for the first time, you do it in a public place such as a coffee shop or the mall or even a church office. You can then get
to know someone better before giving
them your personal contact info.
25.
Do I need to meet people face-to-face?
That depends on the nature of the item(s) or service(s). For example, if you are meeting the need of someone who asked for a prayer partner, you can probably just do this over the phone without ever having to physically meet. If someone is in need of help with painting one of the rooms in their house, chances are you’ll have to meet face-to-face. Or if you are just shipping items (i.e. laptop, toys, clothes, etc.), there is no need to meet. If you are providing or receiving transportation services, you’ll probably have to meet. It’s up to the two parties (giver/receiver; buyer/seller) to arrange things in order to
acquire the posted item(s) &/or service(s).
26.
How do money donations work? *NOTE: This Q&A is regarding the "GIVEAWAYS" & "NEEDS" Categories
a. If someone posts that they are in need of money (or willing/able to give money), the giver has the responsibility to perform due diligence before giving financial aid to any potential recipient(s). Arrangements are to be made strictly between the giver and receiver. We recommend NOT dealing directly in cash, but instead, with checks, money orders, or credit cards (so everything is traceable).
b. Although monetary donations to www.SeekorServe.com are NOT accepted,
please support our sponsors to help keep the site running...CLICK
HERE.
27.
Is this for U.S. residents only?
No. www.SeekorServe.com can be used by anyone, any group, & any organization
anywhere in the world as long as you have internet
access.
28. Am I limited to connecting with people only within a certain area (i.e. city, state, country, region, 50 mile radius from my church, etc.)?
No. You can connect with anybody anywhere in the world. It would be up to you and the other person(s) to arrange for the proper and appropriate transportation, mailing, or communication services. When posting, you are directed to indicate your general physical location (i.e. church, city and state, etc.) so that others who see your post will be aware of any special arrangements that may need to take place in order to connect with you.
29.
Do I have to be a Christian, or part of a Church or other
charitable organization?
No. While everyone is encouraged to connect with a church for Christian/spiritual growth, you do NOT have to be a Christian or part of a Church (or any other charitable or non-charitable organization) to use this site. Jesus Christ just happens to be the primary reason www.SeekorServe.com was created, since He really is the ultimate source of the greatest love of all (John 3:16 and 1 Cor. 15:1-4ff). You do NOT have to
listen to a sermon, attend a Bible
study, or sing worship songs, either.
J
30. Are there any liability issues or risks of which I should be aware?
Everyone (givers and receivers; buyers and sellers) is solely responsible & accountable for their use of www.SeekorServe.com. All users of www.SeekorServe.com have the responsibility to always perform proper due diligence and conduct research with sound judgment, making logical and wise decisions for their safety and that of others, and furthermore conducting themselves in an appropriate (Christ-like) manner so as to
prevent all forms
(tangible/intangible) of abuse &/or harm to any person(s)
&/or thing(s).
31. Is www.SeekorServe.com directly affiliated with any specific church,
denomination,
or other organization?
No. To ensure that the focus is always Jesus Christ and His love, the site has been kept anonymously independent from any church, denomination, or other organization. www.Seekorserve.com was created simply to follow the command of Jesus Christ as stated in The Word of God: that those who would profess to follow Him love one another, and that by doing so, show the world that they are truly followers of Jesus Christ. www.SeekorServe.com is nothing other than a “tool” meant to be used by everyone -
especially Christians & their churches - to follow Jesus’
command and love each other.
The hope and prayer is that enough Christians will rise to the occasion and take advantage of this opportunity to prove to the world that Christians are truly known for LOVE above all.
